उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘इस सरकार और हमारी सरकार में यह बुनियादी फर्क है कि हम भारत के लोगों पर विश्वास करते थे, लेकिन मौजूदा सरकार मानती है कि सारा ज्ञान उनके पास है और वे किसी से संवाद नहीं करना चाहते हैं.’’
एनपीए को लेकर सरकार की आलोचना करते हुए कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने कहा, ‘‘कांग्रेस के समय दो लाख करोड़ रुपये का एनपीए था. इनके समय में 12 लाख करोड़ रुपये का एनपीए है. कृपया बताइए कि यह एनपीए इतना कैसे हुआ है?’’
मोदी सरकार की विदेश नीति पर सवाल खड़े करते हुए गांधी ने कहा, ‘‘ पाकिस्तान का एक अलग तरह का पड़ोसी है. उसके यहां ढांचागत दिक्कतें हैं. वहां चार-पांच केंद्र हैं और यह समझ नहीं आता कि किससे बात करनी है. पाकिस्तान हमारे यहां आतंकी गतिविधियां करवाता है. उसकी बात अलग है, लेकिन दूसरे पड़ोसियों के साथ संवाद की बहुत संभावनाएं हैं.’’ उन्होंने कहा, ‘‘नेपाल एक मिसाल है. वह प्रधानमंत्री मोदी को पसंद करता था, लेकिन दो महीने में ही उन्हें नापंसद करने लगा.’’
अपनी मां सोनिया गांधी का जिक्र करते हुए कांग्रेस अध्यक्ष ने कहा, ‘‘मैंने अपनी मां से बहुत कुछ सीखा है. मेरी मां ने मुझे धैर्य सिखाया है. मैं पहले ज्यादा धैर्यवान नहीं था, लेकिन मेरी मां ने मुझे धैर्य सिखाया.’’
